The New Haven Preservation Trust offers a variety of services to its members and the community at large. Please let us know if we can help you with your preservation project!
Special Services: Technical Assistance, Research, and Private Architectural Tours
Do you own or plan to buy an historic property in New Haven? Site visits may be scheduled with the Trust’s Preservation Services Officer (PSO) to provide insight and suggestions. Expert advice from the PSO may include best preservation practices, architectural style identification, eligibility for listing on the National and State Registers of Historic Places, appropriate paint colors and materials, how to apply for historic preservation tax credits and how to find suitable local contractors. Initial site visits are free to all. Subsequent visits and written recommendations will be charged at the rate of $40 per hour for NHPT members and $50 per hour for non-members.
The PSO also consults on threatened historic resources (local and statewide). Fees and expenses for such services are mutually agreed upon on a case-by-case basis.
Do you want to learn more about a property on your own? NHPT shares reference material from its Historic Resources Inventory, registration forms for listing on the National and State Registers of Historic Places, and on-site library. Use of the Trust’s research materials is free.
For copies of documentation, the first 5 pages are free to members and non-members; there is a charge of 10 cents/page for additional pages. Fees for assistance with preparing a listing for historic registers are mutually agreed upon on a case-by-case basis.
Private Architectural Tours
The New Haven Preservation Trust organizes lively and informative architectural tours of New Haven for small and large groups. Tours are available for specific architectural styles, neighborhoods or streets, or a topic of the group’s choosing. Requests should be submitted at least six weeks in advance. Fees are determined by group size and tour length.
