Elsie B. Chapman

Assistant Secretary

Elsie retired from IBM in 1995, after a successful 30-year career in a range of management and executive level positions. She taught mathematics at Danbury High School and Western Connecticut State University and served as Development Director with the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut. (She is a life member of Girl Scouts USA.) After relocating to New Haven from Ridgefield, Elsie served as a Yale University Development Officer for the Yale Alumni from 2004–2007. Over the years, Elsie has served on many boards. Currently, she is a Board member of the New Haven Free Public Library Foundation and past Board Vice-Chair of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. She is also a member of the New Haven Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, an international corporation of nearly 15,000 professional women of color and one of the nation’s oldest volunteer service organizations. Elsie’s contributions to New Haven have been recognized by several awards from Yale, Gateway Community College, and the city of New Haven. Elsie lives in the Edward Roland house in historic Wooster Square.
